When describing direction to someone, would you rather say "The Sun rises in the East," or "The Earth spins counter-clockwise with respect to the north pole thus the sunrise indicates an easterly direction"? This is more of a traditional statement based on relativity (i.e. the sun rises and sets from our point of view). Besides, what else would you call a sunRISE if you wanted to get as technical as this? I don't think I've lost my common sense, I just like to use the terms "sunrise" and "sunset" to avoid unnecessary explanation like this "universal truth" that everyone knows.
